Dambulla is well-known for its historical, cultural and natural attractions which speaks volumes of the wondrous island of Sri Lanka. This is one of the locations which offers plenty of picture perfect locations for you to visit as a couple and the only place where hot air ballooning is available in Sri Lanka.
Highlight – Check in to the hotel and relax before heading towards the village for a unique and an authentic experience. During the Hiriwadunna village tour you can enjoy a boat ride in a breathtakingly beautiful backdrop, join a family for a Sri Lankan snack and spend a splendid, slow evening in the picturesque village which still has its unbeatable natural beauty and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Enjoy a candle light dinner to celebrate your first night in Paradise.
Take an early start to enjoy a hot air balloon ride over Sigiriya skyline which is a splendid way of capturing the sunrise. This would be the best way to start your first dawn in Sri Lanka. Let us know in advance as this needs to be booked well in advance.
If you prefer a closer look at Sigiriya rock fortress, it is mandatory to climb it and experience the fascinating features of this marvel. Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka which vividly illustrates the rich hydraulic systems, extraordinary architecture, fresco paintings and impressive techniques ancient Sri Lankans have used in building this massive rock fortress.
Spend the rest of the day relaxed at the hotel enjoying its amenities.
If you prefer, you can enjoy a jeep safari at Minneriya/Kaudulla National Park where you can spot the largest elephant gathering in South Asia roaming freely in the grasslands and dipping in the water holes to escape the heat of the setting sun.
Preferred AccommodationKandy housed the last throne and also a pinnacle in the history of Sri Lanka , where the palace and the surroundings still stand proudly in the center of the city. Have an early start for the day and get yourself packed up to experience the beauty, the luscious cuisine and cooley-freaky environment of Kandy, which is another not-to-miss spot which has a high concentration of cultural, historical and natural importance to Sri Lanka.
Enjoy the afternoon at leisure before enjoying a Cultural show which is an hour long depiction of diverse hues of Sri Lankan tradition. This is performed by the Kandy Lake Club which was founded in 1982 with a view to bringing together all the dance types of Sri Lanka to a single platform.
Later in the evening, It would be a perfect time to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic of Buddha. This is of utmost cultural and religious importance to Sri Lankans and Buddhists living world wide.
The second day in Kandy will be a slow flow day with less traveling and more time at the hotel with your loved one.
If you’re interested in exploring the city, we recommend a scenic tour to Ambuluwawa Tower. This is a photographer’s paradise which offers stunning insta-worthy pictures of the lavishly green landscapes. The narrow spiral staircase stands more than 3500 feet above sea level, giving you a complete 360 degrees view of the surrounding mountains and plains.
Return to the city in the afternoon to enjoy lunch at a chic restaurant serving Authentic Sri Lankan food. Spend the evening strolling in the old streets and on the banks of the Kandy lake, and shopping at the Kandy City Center.
Preferred AccommodationToday you travel from the cultural hub to the lavishly green hill country location of Nuwara Eliya.
Highlight – Catch the local train from Kandy to Nanu Oya to have an authentic Sri Lankan experience which is an exceptional highlight of the day.
Nuwara Eliya was a retreat for Colonialists where they could escape the heat of the tropical island, and to plant and take home the world’s finest tea. It is now one of the best honeymoon destinations owing to its perfect cool climate and greenwashed landscapes.
On your way to Nuwara Eliya, visit a tea plantation followed by a factory visit to have a first hand experience of the tea making process, summed up by testing a few samples.
You may enjoy the evening leisurely at the hotel or at Gregory park which is one of the best places to spend a beautiful dusk with local food and drinks.
Waking up early today, depart to Moonplains to catch the sun rise over the hills. The view deck serves a 360 degree view of the hills surrounding you which are tinted in gold with the first rays of the Sun. Be there on time to witness this magical moment.
Highlight – In the afternoon, visit Bomburu Ella waterfall which cascades down in an incomparably stunning setting. This offers insta-worthy picture opportunities and a splendid backdrop for wowsome snapshots with your loved one.
On the way back to the hotel Visit Hakgala botanical gardens if time permits. The climate of the Gardens is subtropical, cool, fresh and somewhat similar to an alpine atmosphere. The temperature ranges from 3°C to 15° C. The flora of the gardens is distinctly sub tropical. It represents indigenous, montane flora intermingled with those introduced from other subtropical countries, systematically planted in various sections of the gardens. The best time to see the gardens is probably from about mid March to the end of April.
Preferred AccommodationWe recommend a stay in Ella on your way to the south. From Nuwara Eliya to the South is a long, tiring journey on narrow, winding roads. Therefore a stay in Ella would definitely make your stay perfect.
This small town is home to the most beautiful viewpoints of the highlands. The temperature will be higher than in Nuwara Eliya but Ella has a vibe of its own that cannot be experienced anywhere else on the island. In case you missed the train ride from Kandy to Nanu Oya, here is another chance to enjoy a ride from Nanu Oya to Ella.
Check in to the hotel and relax before exploring the city in the evening. Climb little Adam’s peak which is one of the mandatory places to visit during your stay in Ella. Capture stunning pictures from up the hills that will surely go viral in social media.
Walk amongst the vibrant, chic boutiques and souvenir shops, and enjoy a mouthwatering meal for dinner in one of the many cafes.
Preferred AccommodationThe last few days of your tour have to be carefully chosen as it’s your final chance to enjoy the charm of our island nation. We recommend Tangalle as it will be less crowded than other popular places but if you need to be a part of the active southern touristic vibe, let your tour coordinator know your preference.
Tangalle is one of the least crowded beach cities in the South and a perfect place to enjoy excursions. Its location allows travelers to move to other Southern beach locations, a list of National parks as well as to nature reserves in the hill country in day excursions. If you choose to enjoy the last few days at your own pace relaxed at the beach, there’s no other place suitable for you than Tangalle.
Preferred AccommodationToday, we bid farewell to the paradise island. On your way to the airport, stop in Colombo for last minute shopping.
If time allows you can enjoy the Colombo city tour which covers Pettah markets, Red Mosque, Gangarama temple, Lotus tower, Galle face and the Port City.
