Check in to the hotel in Colombo and refresh after the flight. This densely populated judicial capital too has a lot to offer from mouth watering street food, vibrant cafes and restaurants, well preserved colonial buildings, shopping malls and other recreational activities.
In the evening hit the streets to roam around the capital. The Galle Face, Colombo city center, Port City, and the surrounding boutiques and cafes are worth the visit. Do not forget to enjoy street food from the food stalls in the Galle Face which will be an authentic way to enjoy your evening in the area.
If you like partying, hit a night club and dance away the first day in Sri Lanka with your friends
Kandy, the heritage packed city, housed the last throne in Sri Lanka of which the palace and the surroundings still stand proudly in the city centre. This is the closest gateway to the hill country where more fun activities await.
Highlight – On our way to Kandy we visit the Elephant Freedom Project to enjoy a couple of hours with a gentle giant. It is a wonderful sight to see unchained elephants roaming freely, enjoying their best life. Surrounded by many elephant riding places, they make the difference by not promoting elephant rides which is why we love this small, family run project. Accompany an elephant on walks while learning about them, bathe and feed them while not missing out on the amazing photo opportunities with your friends.
Check into the hotel in Kandy and relax before going back to the city to stroll through the narrow roads with old buildings standing beside them. The main attractions and activities in Kandy are The Temple of the Tooth Relic, Cultural dance show, Peradeniya botanical garden, Trek in Udawattekele Sanctuary, hike to Hanthana peak and a visit to Ambuluwawa tower.
Wake up early today as we have a day full of excitement. Ella is one of the best cities to visit with friends for a great twist in nature and recreation.
Highlight – On the way to Ella, enjoy a train ride from Badulla to Ella. This ride covers the most popular Demodara loop and the nine arch bridge. Demodara loop is the only one of its kind in the world where the railway track sneaks around the mountain and goes through a tunnel to appear under itself. Nine arch bridge is a mandatory visit in Ella, and this train ride will take you on it creating wonderful photo opportunities.
Check into the hotel and relax before visiting the Little Adam’s peak where more natural beauty and adventure unfold. This is a popular view point in Ella which serves a perfect 360 view of the surrounding serene view encircled by peaks. This provides a stunning backdrop for some insta-worthy and #viral captures with your friends.
Highlight – You can get on board the mega zip line from here and fly through the greenish mountains overlooking the Ella gap. You can enjoy more adrenaline-pumping outdoor activities including quad bike rides, abseiling, archery, and air rifle shooting at the Ravana adventure park.
After a long, exhaustingly thrilling day, enjoy a good meal in a chic restaurant in the small city.
Wake up to a beautiful morning in the hill country as we enjoy the day slow and relaxed. Ella is home to the only pool club in Sri Lanka. Enjoy a couple of hours or a full day at Ravana pool club, overlooking the best views of the mountains while having the best time with your travel buddies.
Other attractions and activities in Ella include a hike up Ella Rock, visit to Ravana waterfall and Ellewala waterfall, visit to the Ceylon Tea Factory restaurant and a trek to Porawagala hill.
We travel to the South West today for a glamping experience in Udawalawe. This is another differently beautiful part of the island rich in wildlife.
We visit the Udawalawe Elephant transit home where orphaned and sick baby elephants are fed and cared for until they are strong enough to be released into the wild. The afternoon feeding time is at 2.30 and it would be a wonderful experience to see hungry calves running to their stations to be bottle fed.
We enjoy the evening game drive at Udawalawe National Park. Look out for elephants, sloth bears, deer, wild boars, crocodiles, and a multitude of bird species. Its riverine forest, savanna and scrubs make it easier to spot majestic birds of prey including serpent eagles, brahmin kites and falcons which will be an exciting opportunity for bird watchers.
We move further South today to spend our last stay on the island, closer to the sea. Mirissa is one of the best surfing spots in the South with easy access to many lively beach locations with turquoise waters, nightlife and recreation.
Surfing, diving, whales and dolphins watching, and snorkeling in Turtle Bay are the popular adventures and sports you can do while in Mirissa. You can enjoy short excursions to Thalpe beach, stilt fishing sites and Coconut Tree hill and Parrot rock for more wonderful photo opportunities.
Your stay in Mirissa will not be complete without a well spent evening with music, food, drinks and laughter. Some of the best places to hangout at night are Zephyr Restaurant & Bar, Central Beach Inn, Mirissa Eye,Cheeky Monkey and the Doctor’s house. Music events are usually popular during Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Therefore we encourage you to stay a couple of nights on the beach if you wish to have the best out of your stay here.
Today, we bid farewell to an amazing week in Ceylon. On your way to the airport, stop in Colombo for last minute shopping to take tangible memories along with you from the paradise island.
